What about “Salesperson” selling radio is honorable so why is radio so ashamed of selling? Account Manager?? I run radio stations and even I don’t know what that is! We should care less about the title of our salespeople and more about their value to the clients.

You can put anything you’d like on the salesperson’s card but the clients still know what they do… why don’t we?

John F, you are right on the money. It seems we’re all afraid to use the term Sales Person or Sales Rep. Our clients aren’t stupid. They DO know what we do.

Sales people need not have any shame in their job title, provided they perform their job with the highest ethical standards, and work hard to build relationships with their clients.

Why do other professions have more professional titles for their sales people. Such as pharmaceutical reps, financial advisors, mortgage brokers, real estate agents, insurance agents, etc…. These people are “sales reps,” but obviously these industries aren’t dumb. Good radio salespeople should be specialists in marketing. If they are, then they should be recognized (in-house and on the street) to be “more than” just a salesperson. Plus, people want to be known as something more than a “salesperson,” even if it’s just on their business card. That’s just human nature of wanting to be proud of what they do when we tell someone we’ve just met. The only other industry I can think off the top of my head that call their salespeople “sales people” are call dealers. Which industry should we follow? Car dealers or all the others I mentioned. I know it’s just a tile, but good radio salespeople (that are marketing specialists) should have a bit classier title than the guy down at the car lot.
